Help Keep Medicare Fair

Filed under: Health News, Mental Health, Senior Health Issues, Social Security — June 19, 2008 @ 7:33 pm

KeepMedicareFair.org is an effort by AARP to raise awareness about Congress’s plan to raise Medicare premiums to cover rising health care costs. This solution is not fair, and we want to put a stop to it before Congress votes on it in June. We are doing this by collecting 200,000 signatures on our petition to let Congress know that we all deserve a fair deal.

Medicare facts:

* The monthly premiums Medicare beneficiaries pay have more than doubled since 2000.
* Unless Congress passes a permanent fix to the rising costs this June, older Americans will be forced to pay even higher premiums on top of their already skyrocketing out-of-pocket health care costs.
* On average, Medicare covers only half of a beneficiary’s annual health care costs not including long term care.
* 43 million Americans rely on Medicare every day for affordable health coverage.
* Most people on Medicare have no other option for affordable health care coverage.
